What is un-American? Is it difficult to define? Who gets to decide what un-American is?

Its not difficult to define what an un-American is. An un-American is like doing things differently then what other people do. Many different types of food are made in America but are not from America because the culture and texture is made from the heart and from their home town. For example, ricans have their traditional food just like african americans do. A thing that is un-American is the items that come from another place in the world; for example, when an item says made in China, Italy, etc. If its not made from America then its un-American. Everybody gets to decide what un-American is but they have to realize that many things are not from America because many products come from different places around the world and ship to stores to be sold but that doesn't mean it's from America since its sold here. Crops are American because the crops are planted and made in America and then ship to stores/markets. People are American unless they are born in another part of the world, then they are considered un-American.

during the failure in the stock market there were people who lost their houses because they didn't have jobs meaning they didn't have money to help them out. the stock market was really bad in 1929. its sad seeing a person become homeless and sleep in the streets or park like this woman in the picture.

some people decided to sell fruits like apples to make money to help support their family during the failure in the stock market. things were not going good for anybody. apples were about 5 cents. from the looks of it they weren't making much business there though.

since people were losing their houses due to losing their jobs and the stock market, they ended up living in buildings like churches, schools, shelters, etc. it was a very difficult time to deal with. i know they were uncomfortable sleeping there since those chairs seem all hard.

What are some examples of imperialism today? How is it different or similar from the past? Explain

Today imperialism has ethnic conflicts intensifying and it's crazy how this world is getting. Not everybody is realizing what is happening though but the little problems from fifty years have increased almost rapidly. No matter what state a person visit they will have imperialism happening because the creation of unequal economic, cultural, and territorial relationships between states. Imperialism is defined as the policy or practice of forming and maintaining an empire and controlling the raw materials and markets of that empire. The difference between them is what background they come from, like economic imperialism, cultural imperialism, military imperialism and political imperialism. There are many examples of imperialism today like the United States is helping/supporting Israel with the problems of war, financial organizations run by first world countries, and Kony 2012. Kony 2012 is a video which shows a man pacing back and forth on the sidewalk, naked in broad daylight, certain to raise questions over the viability of Russell's Invisible Children group. It is accused of terrorizing northern Uganda for two decades and is wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes. The man in the video is accusing of abducting children to use as fighters and sex slaves. All this is sad and should be stop. Don't do unto others what you don't want them to do to you.

mini project for lap 5

Question: Do you think urbanization's problems, politics, environment and separation of classes is right?

--Why did urbanization produce separation of classes?

In the urban area there were a lot of struggles for the poor people and not so many struggles for the wealthy people. Urbanization produced separation of classes because of how wealthy a person and their family were due to their working class. Industrialization in the new urban environment began a slow destruction of the natural ecosystem in the urban area. People were treated differently but they still tried to pull through all the obstacles they had throughout the years. Urbanization's problems and politics affected the poor people because of how wealthy they were but throughout the years urbanization has changed dramatically.

Describe/comment on a Jacob Riis photo

Jacob Riis shows people how lives were lived in How The Other Half Lives. The man in this picture has been sleeping in this cellar for four years. It seems like it could be smelly and dirty in there. I feel bad for him because sleeping there for four years is a difficult and doesn't look comfortable. Having two barrows and a board to sustaining him while sleeping or sitting on there is NOT a memory I would want to have in my life. I know the man in the picture regrets getting placed in that cellar.

Activity 6: questions

the purpose that primary documents serve in history is that they serve as a first hand sources to find information. a primary document is a document that reveals personal information that are in books, the news, and much more. primary documents serve as evidence for historians to understand and build an argument to support a disagreement or agreement. the declaration of independence is a primary source written by Thomas Jefferson so that's a first hand document. primary source helps us feel like if we were actually there when it all happened since we can't go back in time. the world of primary documents has changed over the past two decades by advanced technology to find everything faster like iPod, iPad, mac computers, etc.

what does it mean to be an american?

being an american is to be free and have the freedom to say and do what you want to a certain point. in america, protesters can be out and about day and night but in other states they arrest protesters and some times use weapons on them. american has an advantage because we don't need a visa or green card to live here but immigrants need to go through the process in having a green card. A lot of immigrants get treated differently and wrong when they enter in a new country and they need a certificate, passport, or card to re-enter the country they left. the problem in america is that nobody treats each other with respect and equally. people should be treated the way they want to be treated but not a lot of people pay attention to that saying.
